Screening of the Documentary "The Thinking Game"
By: Integrated AI Network
On 30 October, the Integrated AI Network screened the documentary ‘The Thinking Game’ at the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet). The film was provided to the Network by ROCO Films, the official distributor of 'The Thinking Game'.
The documentary follows Demis Hassabis’ work in Google DeepMind and the pursuit of using Artificial Intelligence as a tool of scientific discoveries. This includes the AlphaFold system, an AI system that can predict protein 3D structure. Hassabis, as well as John Humper and David Barker, recently won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2024, with little to no chemistry background, for their discovery.
The documentary screening was followed by a discussion led by Director of RegNet and IAI Network’s executive, Professor Kate Henne, alongside Associate Professor and another IAI’s executive Charles Gretton from the School of Computing, and Professor Eduardo Eyras from the John Curtin School of Medical Research. Discussions from the audience touched on the subjects of gender and diversity in tech and AI, the need to quicken regulation and governance for AI, large language models, and ethics.
The Integrated AI Network would like to thank ROCO Film for giving us the opportunity to screen this documentary. The Network would also like to thank RegNet for providing the space to screen the documentary as well as their help in the organising process.
