In 2017, the Australian Government commissioned a review of the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 (NVETR Act) and its associated legislative framework. The review was part of the government's commitment to ensure the quality of the National Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.
The review was led by ANU School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) Emeritus Professor Valerie Braithwaite. Emeritus Professor Braithwaite, a member of the National VET Regulator Advisory Council and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Advisory Council, also serves on expert advisory panels for the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the Department of Health and Aged Care. Her research explores the intersection between people and regulatory institutions, focusing on defiance, compliance, emotional regulation and the development of social and human capital.
Her report, All Eyes on Quality: Review of the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011, provided 23 recommendations to enhance the regulation of the VET sector. Recently, the government announced plans to implement key aspects of the 2018 Braithwaite Report. Further information can be found in the press release by The Hon Andrew Giles MP.
